There's Something Happening Here
Join us for an in person write in this spring, on April 25th!
Join novelists, teachers, and students for our first annual Day of the Writer event with the San José Area Writing Project and author in residence Hannah Jayne. We’ll blend individual writing time with prompts, brainstorms, food, and open mic activities to build community while we raise our voice and share our stories. Whether your inclination leans toward fiction or personal essays or writing for social justice, consider carving out a few hours to write and connect.

Join Us for the CATE 2026 Convention:
"From Classrooms to Communities -- Writing for a Democratic Future."
2026 James Gray Memorial Pre-Convention Day
Thursday, March 5, 2026
Information about the event can be found here.
Two workshop sessions will be led by SJAWP teachers.
New Teacher Network
This year, we will continue the SJAWP New Teacher Network to offer a collaborative and supportive “home” for first and second-year teachers, including alumni of San José State’s English Credential program.
Professional Development for Schools and Districts
We offer on-site or virtual professional development workshops led by experienced teachers with research-based practices and classroom-proven writing pedagogies. We'll work collaboratively with your district or site to support the unique interests of your teachers and school community.
