ONLINE Summer Programs for Adults
Begin Anywhere: Writing for Discovery & Self Care (for writers aged 18+), Jane Gilmore & Hannah Jayne
June 15 - July 3, 2020
The San Jose Area Writing Project is excited to partner with author Hannah Jayne to launch its first online writing class for adults aged 18+ with Begin Anywhere: Writing for Discovery & Self-Care. For three weeks from June 15-July 3 participants will receive daily prompts and inspiration to help them build a writing habit. We will provide structure and a supportive community to writers looking to explore elements of fiction, creative non-fiction, memoir, and more. We'll be kicking our inner editors to the curb for this low stakes class that will focus more on community than craft; though students will have the option to join workshop groups to provide feedback to one another. At the end of the course there will be an option to purchase additional instructor feedback on lengthier submissions of writing. Whether this is your first attempt at establishing a writing practice or your tenth, we'll be here to support you as we journey together in making your dream of becoming a writer come true!
We will launch each week with a live Monday morning meditation for writers (writing exercises to get us grounded in our practice for the week). Throughout the week writers will have open access to our online classroom where we will post daily prompts, craft discussions, inspiration, and opportunities to connect with other writers. On Friday afternoons we will host an open mic happy hour for writers to share their pieces with one another. Students will gain access to the online classrooms via Moodle, our Learning Management System, on Friday, June 12 so that they can explore navigating the site, but teachers will not begin posting content until the first day of class on Monday, June 15.
