Family Literacy Invitational Summer Institute 2020

Goal: To create a network of early career Elementary Teachers committed to the profession, supported and mentored by experienced colleagues, and able to bring leadership to schools in engaging students, families, and communities in literacy learning.


Objective: After attending SJAWP’s Family Literacy ISI 2021, participants will create (or expand) a family literacy program for their school.

Due to Covid-19, this program has been postponed to Summer 2021. Applications are to be open Spring 2021. If you are interested and would like to be updated with information, or wish to apply, please sign up for the mailing list below.


Who can apply?

Open to K-5 teachers in Title 1 schools who are in the 1st to 5th years of their teaching careers.

SJAWP’s Family Literacy ISI 2021 Program dates - TBD

Orientation - one Saturday in June 2021 @ San Jose State University 

Invitation Summer Institute - 5 weekdays in Summer 2021 @ San Jose State University 


Benefits of the program:

  • Participants will receive professional development and training on parent engagement and family literacy programs 

  • $500 teacher stipend

  • $500 to school site for resources to support family literacy program 

  • Upon completion of the Family Literacy ISI, participants are eligible to register for up to 3 units of full semester, graduate level credit for $150 per unit

  • 2 follow-up support meetings with Family Literacy ISI Co-Directors
