Can We Talk?
How to Develop Communication
with Your Child's Teachers
For Parents
Communication between parents and teachers is critical for the your child's success. But, sometimes talking to a teacher can be difficult or intimidating. Some parents work long hours and can't meet with teachers. Many immigrant parents feel that their English isn't strong enough to have a conversation with a teacher. Parents often feel that the teacher knows best and that what the teacher recommends for the child is the path the child and parents should follow. The truth is that the parents' input is indispensable. This seminar gives useful information to parents on how to feel comfortable and confident when working with the school system. Both you and your children's school want the best for your children; communication increases the chances of your children's happiness and success in school.

For Parents
No matter what your child's age, he or she can always strengthen their writing endurance. Once children possess even the most basic fundamentals in reading and writing, they can use their creativity to express their ideas and arguments with the pen and paper. This seminar involves effective activities that help the elementary, middle, and even high school student expand his or her ideas in a fun and positive way. Parents' participation in their students' writing activities not only helps the student, but also the parent: language is a lifelong learning activity.

Keeping it Real
Instilling the Importance of Reading and Writing
in Your Child Outside of the School Context
For Parents
A common question that students pose about learning, especially when they start to get older, is, "When will I use this in real life?" Sometimes it is hard to see the importance of what one is learning in school and how it will be a helpful in the real world. This seminar helps parents see the value of reading and writing outside of the school context to better motivate their children to continue developing these skills. Mathematicians, engineers, architects, artists, business managers and even stay–at–home parents must have strong communication skills. We'll see how the process of reading and writing strengthens the ability for adults to think critically and discuss effectively.

Creating an Appreciation for Reading and Writing
that Lasts into Your Children's Adulthood
For Parents
Reading and writing are lifelong skills that can always be enhanced. The more people read and write about others' ideas and their own, the better they're able to think about the world, its beauty, its problems, and where they stand on issues that matter most to them. Reading and writing is connected to thinking, and it's people's thoughts turned into actions that eventually change the world. This seminar poses ways that parents can help build a lifelong appreciation for the word in their children to help their children be effective thinkers and leaders in society as they move into adulthood.
