Literacy Language Development
SJAWP inservice programs for teaching of writing and literature are available to schools and districts in our region. SJAWP teacher consultants collaboratively working with school and district personnel design thoughtful programs to ensure that teaching strategies demonstrated will address the teachers' concerns and will contribute to the long-range plans of the school.
Programs May Be Designed to Include the Following
- Designing a literacy plan
- Implementing effective writing and reading programs
- Writing and reading to learn
- Relationships among writing, reading, listening, speaking, and visually representing
- Writing genres
- Teaching conventions and grammar and meaningful contexts
- Using technology to support the language arts
- Using portfolios and other performance-based assessments
- Developing assessment programs
- Integrating curriculum
- Innovative ways to teach expository writing
To Arrange a Workshop Series
Workshop series are generally three or more meetings ranging from two hours to several full-day sessions. Since each workshop is unique, cost depends on variables including length of each workshop, the number of presenters required, and the need for substitutes. Fees include coordinator(s) and presenters, substitutes for the SJAWP presenters, and materials.
